Fruit, Rice, and Quinoa Washer Magic!

I am a professional chef and like to prepare sushi at home. But, my western style steel colander wasn't the right size for sushi rice and to harsh on the rice as I was cleaning it. I ordered this real Japanese fruit and rice washer from (japan super mall) and what a difference it makes! The bottom of the colander has very small drainage holes which are much smaller than a western style colander. Plus, its made out of a see through strong plastic which is much more gentle on the rice when its washed, swirled, and strained. In addition, there is a pour spout which is not on the top lip, but is located below the top and allows you to keep the rice from flowing out as you wash it. Before I had to use three things; 1. a pot, 2. a bowl, and 3. a strainer. Now I use just the washer by itself. This is a product that is part of a culture and history from a country that is nearly 10,000 years old. It's not just a rice washer, its all the families that have made rice for thousands of years and know how to design a product that is simple, but true. The beauty of this product is that you can use it for any type of washing and straining during food preparation including rice, grains, and seeds such as Quinoa. Be gentile when washing and slowly pour the water out. If you go to fast the contents can get stuck in the drainage grid. This should not happen if you are slow and gentile. Sushi is a form of Culinary Art. At this price its a steal!

Do not mistake it for a collander.

It's excellent for its intended purpose. Unfortunately someone grabbed it without thinking to drain pasta. This bowl is not made for hot water! The plastic liner started pealing. I had to throw it out and order a new one and hide it.
