I withdrew my previous, somewhat critical review and I'm replacing it with this. Having used this mug a while, I've fallen in love with it. It's extremely high quality in materials and construction. The vacuum holds the temperature a very long time. This is not intended for a car; it won't fit the holder. Rather it is for the Asian practice of making green tea and carrying around at work. There is a little removeable tea basket to brew in the mug. Only 11 oz but very comfortable to hold, slim. Expensive but worth it.Having worked for an electronics company which did vacuum packaging, I can tell you that most of the "vacuums" in home / kitchen products will not last very long before leaking in air. This means the heat retention capability will deteriorate over time. Zojirushi is different; they make equipment for the restaurant trade and it lasts.

I have searched for quite a while for the "perfect" spiced Chai Tea-making device. While this isn't EXACTLY it, it comes pretty close while fitting my needs for a travel-type mug. Construction on this is good, there is a small compartment built into the top which allows storage of your raw tea mixture. Inside the screw top is a base for the mesh tea basket which hangs in your tea (for steeping). When you have steeped to your hearts content, you can unscrew the top, flip it over (the spices inside the top will not spill out) and slip the tea basket onto the lid. This clever bit of engineering allows for your milk or water to pool in a small drainage area while you sip your tea from the mug. Additionally, the mug is double-walled and offers very impressive thermal retention. If you can spare the change in the short-term, this method beats the Chai Tea served at your typical over-priced coffeehouses.

By tintintoo
I bought this tea mug because of the great reviews and because I thought that stainless steel would be much safer in contact with boiling hot water than plastic tea travel mugs. I was very disappointed when I received the item to learn that the stainless steel mug is lined with a nonstick coating and that the tea basket is made of polyproylene. I certainly don't want boiling hot water touching plastic or a chemical coating! I had to return the mug.
