By Sam R. Elmore
I bought this tumbler for my girlfriend. When I got it home; I opened it and poured in water from the teakettle. Using a instant read food thermometer I checked the temp. I started at 206 deg, closed the lid and let it set. at 1 hour the temp was 193 deg. At 2 hours 182 deg; at 4 hours 164 deg; and at 6 hours temp was still 152 degrees. over a 6 hours period the temp only decreased 54 degrees. During my test I noticed that the outside of the cup did not feel at all warm to the touch; the only part that changed at all was the top and then only slightly warmer. I also tested the seal by turning the cup upside down for one of the hours with no leaks at all.I do recommend that you don't put liquid that is too hot in it expecting it to cool down to drinking level on the way to work. you won't get anything to drink.

Sipp is the latest tumbler from Thermos & has several improvements over my Thermos Nissan 14-Oz Stainless-Steel Travel Tumbler. Although the Sipp is good, there are some small cons.PROS:1. Keeps drinks hotThermos Sipp keeps my coffee piping hot at the office (which is air conditioned) much longer then the Nissan tumbler. Drink is really hot after 4 - 5 hours even with button in open position. Drinks in the Thermos Nissan would be lukewarm by then. As other reviewers have said, be careful not to have drinks too hot or risk a scalded tongue.2. Leak proofNew mechanism and seals makes the Sipp leak proof when button is in closed position. It will not leak when held upside down (great for traveling). Thermos Nissan has to be kept upright as it is not leak proof.3. Holds more drink, Fits my carI love the bigger capacity of 16oz. Slim design fits cup holder in my car.4. Easy to cleanMechanism is easy to take apart and clean. Unlike the Nissan lid which traps gunk in the corners and beneath the rubber rim.CONS1. SealsTwo soft seals in mechanism ensure no leaks. However I'm not sure how long these will last. Thermos has not replied to my enquiry about replacement seals. Tumbler will still be useable, but not leak proof without the soft seals.2. Where to drink fromTwo slit openings on the inside depressed section allow liquid out. Because there is no handle, there is no tactile reference point when the tumbler is picked up as to where to drink from. That may be why a reviewer had problems with spillage. I get around this by referencing the plastic label on the mug wall which I line up with the drink slit when putting the lid on. With the Thermos Nissan, the lever is the physical reference so I can pick it up & know where to drink from without looking (eg: when reading documents). The Sipp has many great features & I'm very pleased with it. It is a worthy successor to my Thermos Nissan which is still good after more than 5 years of faithful service. However I gave Sipp 4 stars because of the uncertainty of getting replacement seals (at the time of this review).

I noticed that this was coming out when I was shopping for mugs a couple of months ago, so I kept checking back until it was released, and I'm glad I did. I had ended up with the Contigo mug before, which was OK, but I never really liked the styling. This mug is at least as good as the Contigo, and is able to be completely disassembled, so those that were worried about the build up in the mechanisms of the Contigo don't need to have that concern here.Really the only downside of this mug is that to fit the disassembling seals, it is a couple inches taller than most mugs are, being only slightly shorter than an average 20 oz. bottle. The size doesn't bother me, and the sealing mechanism is good enough that even with the mug in the open position (you press down on the middle button, and it will snap in an open position) I'm still almost burning my tongue on my coffee 2 hours later.Highly recommended!
